Benjamin Apple: Woman in Comedy: A really scary thing happened to me last night at a comedy show.
Part of me thinks it’s too soon to be writing about this because I don’t think I’ve completely processed how I feel, but I also think maybe this has happened to other women and I should talk about it in as raw a way as possible. I’m still really embarrassed and ashamed and garbled…
Years ago at UCB there was a show that featured four woman — Four Faces of Eve, maybe? Dannah, Jackie, Dyna and… I’m blanking.. Danielle? Tara? I can’t remember. But there was some drunk early-20s assholes in the front row making comments. I was in the back of the house and couldn’t hear them, but apparently they was commenting on which cast members they’d fuck? Like “Yep, her. Nope, not her (giggle).” I found that out after. But during the show — after like maybe two minutes of these comments - Rob Huebel walked up and kicked them all the fuck out. All business. He walked right up from the back of the house and leaned over them and said “All right. You guys — out.”
Chris Kula remembers this, I know. Because we mentioned it years later when we saw some other douches or something almost getting out of hand. “Someone needs to Rob Huebel them” I think Chris said, maybe?
Anyway, in Gaby’s story: I’m glad the hosts got rid of this guy — but I wish they had been able to do it sooner, and also had gotten him out of the fucking building! Zero tolerance for creeps!
